Documents We CANNOT Notarize or Commission Online

In Canada, these documents currently require in-person, pen and paper appointments and cannot be signed electronically:

A document of title (e.g. bill of sale, deed), except a contract of carriage (see s. 31 of the Ontario Electronic Commerce Act, 2000)
A document that is prescribed or belongs to a prescribed class under the Ontario Electronic Commerce Act, 2000 (currently none)
Certified true copies of original paper/printed documents (i.e. “notarized copies”)
Negotiable Instruments (Cheque, Promissory Notes, Loan Agreements, etc)
Statutory Declaration in Lieu of Guarantor for a Canadian Passport
Passport applications (in Lieu of Guarantor)
Trusts (including Testamentary Trust)
Payment Bond or letter of credit
Single Status Affidavit
Lost Passport

Is an online notary accepted everywhere in Ontario?

Remote commissioning is allowed in Ontario, but acceptance depends on the organization requesting your document. Many institutions accept properly commissioned online affidavits and declarations, but you should always confirm with them in advance.

What do I need for my notary online appointment?

You will need a valid government photo ID, a clear copy of your document in PDF or Word format, a device with a camera and microphone, and a stable internet connection.

Do you notarize certified true copies or in-person documents

This platform focuses on online notary style services for affidavits and declarations only. We do not provide in-person notarization or certified true copies through the online system.

How long does the online notary process take?

Most appointments take 4–7 minutes. In many cases, clients receive their commissioned documents the same day.
